CPO. I think his brother was a golf
pro.

Our private beach. It really was very
nice. I wonder if anyone has turned it into a resort. If so, I
wonder if they warn guests of the MANY deadly sea-snakes in the lagoon?
|
|

Two of the most vicious geese
ever! They belonged to "Goldie" the Vietnamese lady who
kept the beer cold at the hut seen above. There were some
"rumors" about Goldie. Anyone care to confirm or deny?

Swimming dock and ski boat,
small sampan anchored in foreground. In the background an LST and
what appears to be a destroyer.

These are O' Day, Rhodes
19's. Exactly the same as the boat the army so kindly provided for
my use. This is a long story and the details can be seen in the
"Readers Stories" on the PTF Nasty web site. To make a
long story kinda short, this picture is at the boat rental I worked at
before I went into the Navy. When I was at Camp Fay the Army basically
gave me one of these boats for personal use since I was the only one there
who knew how to sail! Thanks guys!

Water skiing in our
lagoon. Small Vietnamese village occupies the western part of the
lagoon.
|

Looking south at our
beach. Ammunition bunkers behind the beach.

Paul Cunningham
sitting. Paul organized the recent reunion of BSU and MST members
held May 21st, in Coronado, CA. Thanks Paul, it was fun.

|

Lt. Alvin Freeman. I vaguely remember him being from Virginia. Nice
guy.

War is hell!

Vietnamese Dong

Military Payment Certificate.
These substitutes were intended to prevent an influx of
"dollars" into the local economy thus causing destabilization. Right!
|

Vietnamese drivers license.
My picture fell off!

Bob Hope with Johnny Bench, Gloria Loring, Lola Falana.

Bob Hope with Miss World, or was it Miss Universe?

Nurses!

|

The "Gold Diggers".
|

Landing Ship Dock. This is how we transported
boats to the Philippines for repair or overhaul. The stern of the
ship would be flooded and we would tow boats, with cradles already
attached, up in the boat deck. The ship would then refloat and close
the transom doors.
|

Helicopter carrier.
|
|

Main navy base shot from Monkey Mountain.
|

Shot off San Diego. We had three boats, a patrol
boat (above) the Tucumcari (right) and a PTF. Each boat had a
cameraman with a gyroscope stabilized camera. The point of the exercise
was to to see what hull type would handle rough water better. The
PTF lost, DUH!

Typical Vietnamese sampan.

Can't remember his name!

These shots were taken during one of the
weekly stage shows in our club.
|
|

John T. Bray during one of the shows.
Talk about all dressed up and nowhere to go! I'll bet he was the
only enlisted man in country who brought a sport coat!
|

J.T's puppy Missy |

J.T. dressed a little more
casually. This is the screened-in corridor of the enlisted quarters.

Ration card of the type
issued to all personnel in country. These were intended to protect
the local economy by preventing military personnel from flooding the
country with cheap American products. I wasn't a smoker, the
cigarettes were used to pay for the model of the PTF shown elsewhere on
this site. A carton of Salems would buy lots of things..... I
have no such excuse for the beer, liquor and wine. If I remember
correctly a bottle of Chivas Regal was $5. A carton of cigarettes was $2. I remember that because the boat model
cost me $80, 40 cartons of Salems.

The telegram I received while
home on leave directing me to BSU-1 instead of the USS Sutter County.
|

MACV card. I don't exactly remember
what it was used for. I think it was ID when cashing paychecks. |

SERE (survival, evasion,
resistance and escape) school certificate.
|

Geneva Convention card. VERY glad I
never had to use this one! |
